This is a dust storm being generated by the disturbed soils of the currently designated play area. This area is 2600 acres. The BLM intends to soon open 6000 more acres to unlimited access. The impacts to soils, water and air are being ignored.

This is what the wheels do to the soils of the badlands. It takes a while for the soil to heal. But more important than the unsightly nature of the damage is the fact that the disturbed soils have a negative impact on the air and water. And water is scarce in the Southwest.
